BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man is accused of stabbing to death his 16-year-old niece.

Police say 31-year-old Richard Segabiro called authorities shortly after 10 p.m. Monday to report the stabbing.

Police say when they arrived at Segabiro’s apartment they found him covered in blood and his niece, Francine Nyanzaninka, dead in a bathroom of what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

Police say Segabiro’s wife and three children were home at the time of the stabbing, but not injured.

Segabiro is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond on a murder charge. It was not immediately clear if he has hired an attorney.

Police say Segabiro told them he had raised the teenager, but authorities did not provide a motive for the stabbing.
