NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities say a Newark police sergeant fired his gun at a suspect, though no injuries were reported.

City police told that the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. But further details were not immediately released regarding the circumstances that prompted the shooting.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and remained at large Monday. It wasn’t clear if anyone else was in the vehicle with the suspect.

The name of the officer who fired the shot was not released.

The shooting remains under investigation.
