RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for fatally stabbing a 30-year-old woman following an argument at a motel a year ago.

Twenty-four-year-old Vincent Mousseaux pleaded guilty late last year to first-degree manslaughter in the March 2017 killing of his 30-year-old roommate Deziree Martinez at the Price Motel. Authorities have said the mother of six children was stabbed 40 times.

Prosecutors said the slaying was extremely aggressive and violent, and asked during Monday’s sentencing for a life sentence. Mousseaux’s attorney said his client has mental health issues, and asked for a “reasonable” sentence.

Mousseaux will be eligible for parole after serving about 60 percent of his prison sentence. He will be in his 60s by then.
