RUTLAND, Vt. — Firefighters say they had to use air packs during a fire at a Vermont auto parts business and salvage yard to avoid inhaling toxic smoke from car parts and oil barrels.

No one was hurt at Rosen & Berger in Rutland, and there’s no word on what started the blaze Monday night. Authorities say all the employees had already left for the night when the fire broke out.

Capt. Matt Voity of the Rutland Town Volunteer Fire Department tells the Rutland Herald that firefighters’ efforts were complicated by the contents of the building.

A nearby home was evacuated as fire crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading.
