Pedestrian struck, injured while crossing highway

A man was taken to the hospital with two broken legs after being hit by a car Friday evening while crossing State Road 135.

Erik Stuck, 27, of Greenwood, was driving south on State Road 135 around 8 p.m. and told police he was moving to the center lane near Curry Road so that he could make a turn onto Devonshire South Drive, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Stuck’s vehicle struck Ty-Ron Johnson, 20, of Greenwood, who had been standing in the center lane, the report said. Stuck told police that he didn’t see Johnson until it was too late to avoid hitting him, the report said.

Johnson was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital to be treated for a neck injury and two broken femurs, the report said.

Johnson, who lives in an apartment complex on State Road 135, told police that he had been walking across the road to get to work. He remembered watching for traffic, running to the center turn lane and stopping, but said he couldn’t remember what happened next, the report said.

He was listed in stable and fair condition on Monday.
