MEREDITH, N.H. — Even before the official winners were announced, John Parry was pretty sure he won best catch of the day at the annual Great Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby.

WMUR-TV reports that Parry and his longtime love, Jaye, got married on Lake Winnipesaukee’s frozen Meredith Bay on Saturday, the first day of the weekend-long tournament. He called it the best day of his life.

The annual event features food, fishing and plenty of prizes. While warming temperatures raised some concerns, officials said the ice has proven to be solid.

The derby continues Sunday.
