WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Secretary of the Army is visiting the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Secretary Mark Esper, a 1986 graduate of West Point, is scheduled to visit the academy on Saturday.

The academy says Esper planned to speak about modernization, readiness and preventing sexual harassment and sexual assault.

Data released this past week showed the number of sexual assaults reported at the U.S. Military Academy roughly doubled during the last school year. Defense Department and West Point officials said the big jump resulted from a concerted effort to encourage victims to come forward.
