Center Grove graduate Wentland making contributions for Indiana State women

Junior guard/forward Regan Wentland played a prominent role in Indiana State’s women’s basketball team extending its winning streak to five games.

The former Center Grove player scored a career-best 18 points to go along with two rebounds and two blocks in the Sycamores’ 66-57 victory at Evansville. During the streak, Wentland is averaging 6.2 points and 3.6 boards.

CENTER GROVE

Chase Bettner, a junior swimmer at Miami of Ohio, finished third in the 100-yard butterfly and was on the Redhawks’ second-place 400 medley relay team in a victory against Xavier.

Indianapolis freshman Kylie Falcone produced a third-place finish in the pole vault at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic. Falcone’s winning height of 3.47 meters was just short of her own program record (3.57) set earlier in the season.

Lipscomb freshman sprinter Grant Mason won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.41 seconds at the Don DeNoon Invitational men’s indoor track meet at Southern Illinois. Mason also placed seventh in the 100 with a time of 6.99.

Junior Tori Long took part in Davidson’s record-setting performance in the medley relay at the Camel City Invitational at Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The time of 11:46.06 lowered the program standard of 11:46.52 at last year’s Atlantic 10 championship.

Purdue’s Justin Veteto ran the nation’s 38th-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles this season at 7.94 seconds to place fourth at the Rod McCray Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.

DePauw women’s basketball player Emma LeMasters dished three assists in a victory against Hiram and added two points and a rebound in the Tigers’ 75-43 win against Denison.

Michael Benkert scored five points off the bench for Belmont in its 98-63 rout of Eastern Kentucky.

Junior guard Jessica Norris scored five points to go along with three rebounds in Holy Cross College’s 71-60 loss at IU-South Bend. She produced 10 points, six boards and four assists in a 66-60 victory against Robert Morris.

Lipscomb recorded a 66-58 home triumph against NJIT, with starting guard Lauren Rau contributing 11 points, three assists and three steals. In an 80-64 loss at USC-Upstate, Rau had seven points, three rebounds and three assists.

GREENWOOD

Taylor sophomores Hunter Smith and Garrett Henderson competed at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic in the 600- and 3,000-meter runs, respectively. Hunter placed fourth in 8:57.11, while Henderson was 11th in his race in a time of 1:33.38.

IUPUI’s Holly Hoopingarner scored two points and grabbed a rebound in the Jaguars’ 68-43 women’s basketball victory against Illinois-Chicago.

WHITELAND

Freshman Jessyca Napier picked up an assist off the bench for IU-Kokomo in its 76-68 loss to Brescia.

St. Francis guard Sidney Crowe scored four points and collected four rebounds in her squad’s 74-50 win at Goshen. She had two points and four assists in a 78-73 loss at Huntington.

INDIAN CREEK

Junior guard Dylan Phair had 17 points and three rebounds to lead Indiana Tech to a 68-66 win at Rochester (Michigan).

FRANKLIN

Chattanooga junior wrestler Connor Tolley lost a 7-5 decision in the 285-pound weight class as his squad came up short against Appalachian State, 18-16. Tolley’s overall record this season for the Mocs is 7-5.

Senior guard Tara Parmer scored a team-high 20 points with six assists and five steals to lead St. Mary-of-the-Woods score a 109-71 victory against Cincinnati-Clermont. Parmer led all scorers with 18 points and had five assists in a 95-87 win against Blackburn.
