Col. (IGR) Paul D. Walker

FRANKLIN

Colonel (IGR) Paul D. Walker, 87, of Franklin, passed away, Sunday, February 4, 2018. He was born to the late Melvin and Esther Walker in Illinois.

Paul graduated from Champaign High School and went on to the University of Illinois to earn his Master’s Degree in Personnel Management. In July 1949, he enlisted into the United States Army. He served in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart. He retired from the military in 1990. Paul was a very active member in the many communities he resided in, becoming a member of the Lion’s Club. He was an active member of the Franklin Lion’s Club. Paul was an avid reader. He enjoyed listening to classical music. He would never turn down a good game of golf. He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

Paul is survived by his four children; Col (Ret) Paul D. Walker Jr. (Judy Zeiger) of Leavenwoth, KS, David E. Walker of Livonia, MI, Jacqueline (John) Terhaar of Elwood, IL, Matthew Walker of Champaign, IL, Jean (Xerxes) Harrison of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Melissa Walker, Christopher Walker, Col. Lisa Walker, Paulanne Walker, Kirsten Walker, Kyle Walker, John Samuel Whitesides, James Whitesides, and Takisha Watson; and five great-grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Stanley Walker.

A visitation will be Friday, February 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service immediately following at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel 197 E. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis. There will be a dinner held after the burial at Concordia Lutheran Church in Greenwood.
