ROANOKE, Va. — Rep. Tom Garrett has announced he had filed for the Republican nomination to seek a second term representing the 5th Congressional District.

News outlets report that Garrett made the announcement Tuesday.

Garrett said in a news release that he’s running for re-election because there is more work to be done. He said they have passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which has started to bring jobs back to Southside Virginia.

Democrats will choose their nominee in a convention in the spring. Several Democrats have announced plans to seek their party’s nomination.
