KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old from Kansas City is charged with fatally shooting a man whom the teen claimed hit his mother.

The Kansas City Star reports that Tony Mack Jr. is charged with second-degree murder, assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in the Jan. 28 shooting that killed 56-year-old Leon Taylor and wounded another man. Bond is set at $150,000. It wasn’t immediately known if the teen had an attorney.

Moments before the shooting, Mack’s mother, Taylor and two other men arrived at a house after running errands. Mack noticed a scab under his mother’s nose and asked what happened. Court records say his mother said she fell down, but Mack didn’t believe her.

Court records say Mack accused Taylor of hitting his mother before firing several shots.
