LAS VEGAS — Police say the owner of a property in northeast Las Vegas, where an apparent cockfighting ring was uncovered last week, claimed to have no idea why large groups of people frequently gathered there.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports 48-year-old Pablo Castellanos was arrested on multiple felony animal torture charges after police searched his property.
According to the arrest report, Las Vegas police found sharp metal spurs, training equipment and 19 dead roosters as well as roosters that had their wattles and combs removed.
Police say 440 roosters were removed from the property.
Castellanos told police that he breeds roosters, and his were “kind and not fighting roosters.”
Police arrested three other men last week in connection to cockfighting. Two men told police they were at the house to buy tacos.
