Local resident arrested after Franklin high-speed chase

A man was arrested after a pursuit that reached 135 mph on U.S. 31 in Franklin early Sunday morning.

Jimmie Bickers, 29, Bargersville, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving, possession of marijuana, resisting law enforcement and for being a habitual traffic violator.

An officer parked at the intersection of Main Street and Martin Place in Franklin saw Bickers, who he had arrested previously for being a habitual traffic violator, drive through the intersection around 3 a.m. Sunday, a Franklin Police Department report said.

When the officer tried to stop Bickers, he sped away, through several neighborhood streets and a parking lot, not stopping for a stop sign and nearly striking another vehicle, before turning onto U.S. 31, the report said.

An officer set up stop sticks near Whiteland Road, which Bickers’ car hit before stopping in a parking lot at that intersection, the report said.

Bickers ran from the vehicle through a neighborhood east of U.S. 31 before an officer used a Taser, and he stopped and was arrested, the report said. Bickers, 583 E. Old Plank Road, was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $10,800 bond.
