College update – February 3

Purdue senior hurdler Justin Veteto won the 60-meter hurdles at the Boilermakers’ annual Fred Wilt track and field invitational in a time of 8.05 seconds.

The former football and track standout at Center Grove broke the eight-second barrier in his preliminary race with a 7.99.

CENTER GROVE

Indiana junior Derek Grimmer helped the Hoosiers win the 4×400 relay at the IU Relays in a time of 3:13.86.

Lipscomb freshman sprinter Grant Mason posted the 15th-fastest 200-meter dash time among 86 competitors at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Virginia. Mason’s time was 22.05 seconds.

University of Indianapolis pole vaulter Kylie Falcone tied for second at the Tom Hathaway Distance Classic. In the same indoor meet, Casey Wendorff, a UIndy junior, took third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:54.16.

Xavier junior Grant Stapleton established a new personal record of 1:54.57 as he placed fifth in the 800-meter run at Marshall’s Thundering Herd Invitational.

Tori Long set one of four new Davidson track records at Boston University’s Terrier Classic. The junior clocked a time of 1:15.93 for a new standard in the 500-meter run.

Freshman swimmer Noah Tallman was plenty busy in Franklin College’s 185-78 victory against Illinois Wesleyan. Tallman took second in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle while also competing on the Grizzlies’ 200 medley relay (first) and 200 free relay (second).

Emma LeMasters scored two points off the bench for the DePauw women’s basketball team as it ran its record to 19-1 with a 77-48 victory against Wooster.

Freshman guard Kas Oganowski scored four points in four minutes to go along with two assists in Adrian’s 94-72 men’s basketball loss at Calvin.

Belmont guard Michael Benkert had one point, one rebound and one assist for the Bruins in their 84-59 romp of Eastern Illinois.

Junior Regan Wentland provided Indiana State five points, six rebounds and a block in the Sycamores’ 73-65 win against Loyola. A 67-54 ISU triumph at Valparaiso saw Wentland grab six boards.

Lipscomb guard Lauren Rau helped the Bison post an 84-58 victory at NJIT with her six points, eight assists and two steals.

Holy Cross College lost a home game to St. Xavier in women’s basketball, but junior guard Jessica Norris did finish with three points, three assists and three rebounds. Norris had 12 points and four boards in a 79-66 loss to Judson.

FRANKLIN

Tara Parmer’s 10 points, eight steals and four rebounds were enough to help St. Mary-of-the-Woods down Robert Morris-Springfield, 79-57. She finished with five points and four rebounds in a 106-82 loss to Wilberforce.

Marian freshman Sam Barnett posted the 16th-best times in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the Tom Hathaway Distance Classic at the University of Indianapolis. Barnett’s times were 25.38 and 56.63 seconds, respectively.

University of Indianapolis wrestlers D.J. Smith and Luke Kriech posted wins in the 125- and 174-pound weight classes, respectively, in the Greyhounds’ 34-6 defeat of Drury.

Indiana defeated 14th-ranked Louisville in men’s swimming and diving, 184.5 to 115.5, as junior Adam Destrampe twice touched the wall in second. Destrampe swam a time of 4:26.70 in the 500-yard freestyle and a 9:10.71 in the 1,000 free.

GREENWOOD

Sophomore guard Holly Hoopingarner scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and distributed a pair of assists in IUPUI’s 52-45 loss at Green Bay.

INDIAN CREEK

Indiana men’s swimmer Levi Brock placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and sixth in the 200 breast to help the Hoosiers to a 184.5 to 115.5 victory over No. 14 Louisville.

Indiana Tech’s 73-70 win at Lourdes in men’s basketball included 17 points and two assists from Dylan Phair, who also had seven points and eight assists in Tech’s 91-84 loss to Michigan-Dearborn.

WHITELAND

Sidney Crowe supplied the St. Francis women’s basketball squad with eight points and five rebounds off the bench in an 80-65 defeat of Mount Vernon Nazarene. The freshman guard also provided three points and three rebounds in a 66-61 loss to Taylor.
