DOVER, Del. — Delaware State Police say they are investigating a home invasion.

State police said Thursday that the 31-year-old homeowner advised that she heard a knock at her door. When she proceeded to open the door, several subjects who were armed with handguns had forced their way into the residence.

Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe tells news outlets that the children, ranging from 5 years old to 14 years old, were asleep in their rooms.

Police say it was determined that the intended target of the home invasion was the victim’s ex-boyfriend, who no longer lives at the house.

Police say the homeowner and her four children were not injured as a result of that incident.
