PHILADELPHIA — Troy Harper scored 17 points and Sammy Mojica added 16 as Drexel outlasted James Madison 76-74 on Thursday night.
The Dragons (10-14, 4-7 Colonial Athletic Association) also received double-digit contributions from Kurk Lee (14 points) and Austin Williams (11 points) in the win over the Dukes (6-18, 2-9). Williams and Lee played hero for Drexel in the final seconds, with Lee making two free throws with 6.2 seconds left and Williams rejecting a Stuckey Mosley layup at the buzzer to seal the Dragons’ win.
Drexel took command early, taking advantage of the Dukes missing 10 of their first 11 shots to jump out to a 9-2 lead. The Dragons held a 30-22 advantage at halftime. In the period, JMU missed all 10 of its 3-pointers.
Both teams saw more success shooting the ball in the second half, with each hitting over 57 percent of its shots after the break. JMU used 10 Drexel turnovers to get back in it. Matt Lewis’ layup tied it at 74 with just 27 seconds left, before Lee and Williams sealed the victory.
Matt Lewis finished with 26 points, while Mosley scored 22 for the Dukes.
