Local man arrested after church burglary

A man was arrested after a burglary at a Greenwood church early Monday morning.

Ty Vanness, 24, Greenwood, was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.

A staff member at Berean Baptist Church, 1191 W. County Line Road, told police he had gone to the church around 3 a.m. Monday to investigate a security alarm. After seeing an office door had been kicked in, the man called police, who searched the building and found another damaged door, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

Video projectors and a flat-screen TV were missing from the building, the report said.

About 4:50 a.m., a police officer saw Vanness walking behind a house in the 1000 block of Lovers Lane near the church, carrying two video projectors, the report said.

Vanness told police he had found the projectors while he was out looking for his dogs, the report said.

Vanness, 1072 Cherryfield Lane, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was held on $4,400 bond
