Phillip E. ‘Phil’ David

WHITELAND

Phillip E. "Phil" David, 75, of Whiteland, IN, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born April 25, 1942 in Columbus, IN, to Maurice B. David and Anne Thelma (Morton) David. He married Patricia D. (Jones) David on March 3, 1961; she preceded him in death on December 24, 1991. He then married Sharon K. (Snyder) Smith David on July 24, 1993 in Whiteland; she survives.

He was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School. He retired in 2012 from the city of Greenwood Engineering Department after 9 years of service. He previously had worked 9 years for the Johnson County Highway Department, worked for the street department of Princes Lake, where he also had been the town marshal, and also been a semi-truck driver.

He was a member of Honey Creek United Methodist Church in Greenwood. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, working with his guns, and was an avid reader. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon K. (Snyder) Smith David of Whiteland, IN; children, Jessica L. David (Lew DeWitt) of North Vernon, IN, Denise D. Reynolds of Goshen, OH, Christine M. David-Wood (David) of Franklin, IN, Phillip E. David II (Candace) of Goshen, OH, Travis C. David (Sarah Nichole) of Goshen, OH, Angela K. Jacob (John M.) of Indianapolis, IN, James H. Smith of Bargersville, IN, Brian S. Smith of Trafalgar, IN, Gregory A. Smith of Greenwood, IN; a sister, Doris A. Minton of Bartlett, TN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank D. and Shirley A. Miller of Morganton, NC; a daughter-in-law, June Michelle David of Victorville, CA; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice B. David and Anne Thelma (Morton) David; wife, Patricia D. (Jones) David on December 24, 1991; son, Eric A. David on September 19, 1999; an infant son, John A. David on August 31, 1980; a grandchild, Brittany N. Smith; a great-grandchild, Emily M. Watkins; a brother, Charles L. David; and a sister, Josephine M. David.

The Reverend Brad Miller will conduct a service Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street), in Franklin. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Honey Creek United Methodist Church, 2722 South Honey Creek Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.
