Richard K. Parson

MARTINSVILLE

Richard K. Parson, age 68, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018 at his home in Martinsville. By his side, was his loving wife of 48 years, Karen, and their children.

He was born February 8, 1949, in Indianapolis, to the late Donald W. and Mino Louise (Green) Parson. He attended Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 5 with the Company C 42s Support Battalion of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Richard retired in 2001 as a Mechanic with Olin Brass Corporation in Indianapolis after 31 years of service. After retirement, he held the same position for 6 years with Sara Lee Bakery in Indianapolis. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 103 in Mooresville.

He enjoyed playing basketball, mushroom hunting and working on and restoring vehicles. Richard truly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Karen S. (Brooks) Parson, whom he married on October 7, 1969 in Brown County. He is also survived by his children, Richard K. (Darlene) Parson and Christopher D. (Mikii Sutton) Parson, both of Martinsville; grandchildren, Dustin Parson of Greenwood, Chelsea Parson of Morgantown and Nicholas Parson of Martinsville; great granddaughter, Zoey Crone of Morgantown; siblings: Donald Parson of Morgantown, Mary Lou (Leonard) Casey of Radcliff, KY, Sheron Elkins and Virginia Perry both of Brown County, Sue Ellis of Martinsville, Joyce Kemp of Morgantown and Judith (Steve) Crider of Sarasota, FL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Patricia Arnold, Barbara Badgley, Lewis, John, James and William “Bill” Parson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Military rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards following the service on Saturday evening.
