Letter: Country overdue in reclaiming good behavior in government

To the editor:

The press secretary and other supporters have begun excusing Trump’s vulgar and disparaging remarks by claiming “that’s the way real Americans talk.”

The biggest challenge for civilized society and government is the segment of the population that does talk and think that way. While many Trump supporters are just misinformed, a lot of them are from the vulgar, hateful segment that includes vigilantes, lynch mobs, people who hate blacks, Latinos, Native Americans, Jews, homosexuals, transgenders, Italians, white supremacists, rip-off and con artists, strike-breakers and their employers and the corporate and political thieves who have no integrity or social conscience.

They are not the majority, and a flawed election process does not justify them in their anti-social behavior. One of the major functions of responsible government is to protect the rest of the people from the viciousness and thievery of the vulgar, hateful segment.

When the government gets hijacked by deceit and denial, the bulk of the population must reclaim a civilized, honest government that serves with integrity on behalf of all people. We are overdue in reclaiming civilized, courteous and honest governance.
