Nannie C. Peavler

GREENWOOD

Nannie Catherine Brawner Peavler, 103, passed away peacefully at Greenwood Heath and Living Community on Monday afternoon, January 14, 2018.

Nannie was born on February 9, 1914 to Robert Lee and Louisa Amanda (Browning) Brawner in Bedford, KY, and was a graduate of Center Grove High School in 1933.

She marries Wilburn (Bill) Peavler on September 25, 1943, and they became the proud parents of Alma Darlene Peavler on May 11, 1945. Nan and Bill then divorced but remained friends for many years, and even remarried on July 22, 1976. From that point on, they enjoyed a life in retirement until Bill’s death on August 19, 2000.

Nan was preceded in death by her father, mother, step-father (David J. Miller); daughter (Alma Darlene Peavler Simmons Vibbert Sanders); granddaughter (Sherri Vibbert); sister (Maudie Lee Brawner Ingersoll Mealler); half-brother (John Franklin Miller); stepsisters (Edna Miller Lewis, and Alma Miller Drake); stepbrothers (David Arnold (Jack) Miller, and Carl (Boob) Miller); nephews (John Franklin Miller, Jr., Michael Miller, Clive Emory Lewis, and Frankie Lewis); stepdaughter (Margaret Davis).

She is survived by her grandsons (Jack (Rita) Simmons, and Gary Vibbert); granddaughters (Kathy Simmons, and Brenda (Rick) Tharpe); great-grandsons (Gary Vibbert, Jr., Michael Vibbert, and Zachary Hudson); great-granddaughters (Payton Vibbert, Angel Tharpe, April Simmons, and Taylor Pierce); stepdaughters (Martha Jean Kent, and Rosalee Williams); stepsons (Joseph and James Peavler); niece (Eleanor Adams); nephew (Clarence Ingersoll); and several half- and step-nieces and nephews. Nan especially enjoyed many cards and letters from her niece, Mary, who also corresponded for all the “Miller Kids:” Debby, Jeff, and Nyla, who live in Florida.

Following in her mother’s (Mrs. Louisa Miller) footsteps, Nan was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood, IN, and the Baptist Builders Sunday School Class, and was also a member of the Greenwood Senior Citizens for many years.

During the later years of her life, Nan’s immediate needs were always met by Margaret Ann Morrison and Doris Mullinix; her dearest friends and members of her church family. Nan also spent many hours sharing a meal and watching TV at night with her long-time best friend and neighbor, Mrs. Carol Creech. Norm and Rose Bough (Bill Peavler’s youngest sister), took on the responsibility of helping with most of Nan’s home maintenance and legal responsibilities.

Nan’s niece, Eleanor, and her husband, Bob Adams, having such close ties to Aunt Nan (who assister her sister, Maudie and Dr. John K. Kingsbury at Eleanor’s birth then later introduced Eleanor to Bob), enjoyed many precious hours (82+ years) with Aunt Nan, whether it was family gatherings, assisting when needed, visiting, talking ‘family’, sharing meals at Nan’s favorite restaurants, at birthday and holiday celebrations, “our special coffee and pie time” at her home, and being with and caring for her during emergencies, and when she had to leave her home to be under the best of care at the Greenwood Health and Living Community.

Words cannot express how we miss her, but know she is where she wanted to be when she finished a well-run race on this earth and is now sharing eternity with family and friends in Heaven face-to-face with JESUS FOREVER.

Funeral services for Nan will be held on Wednesday, January 17, at 1:00 pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood Health and Living Community or the First Baptist Church of Greenwood.
