Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

A police officer noticed a headlight out on a vehicle and stopped it, and found methamphetamine and a possible drug ledger book.

Shannon Nicole Beatty, 38, of Indianapolis, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

A Franklin police officer saw a vehicle with a headlight out on on Jefferson Street just before midnight on Saturday. The driver and Beatty, the passenger, acted nervous and didn’t have clear answers as to where they were headed, a police report said.

Their behavior raised the officer’s suspicions, and he called another officer with a K-9 to the traffic stop. The police dog indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle, the report said.

Officers found methamphetamine in Beatty’s purse and found morphine pills, more methamphetamine and a smoking pipe in the vehicle.

In total, police found about 17 grams of methamphetamine, which would be worth about $1,300 if sold.

Jail officers found a possible drug ledger when Beatty was booked into the jail.

The driver told police he did not know anything was in the vehicle, and he was not arrested.

Beatty, of 3807 Terrace Avenue, was held at the Johnson County jail on $8,600 bond.
