LOS ANGELES — A girl was slain and a woman was wounded in a shooting in south Los Angeles County.

The Sheriff’s Department says Los Angeles police officers heard gunshots around 9 p.m. Thursday and saw a dark SUV speeding away.

A chase ensued and when the SUV finally came to a stop, the officers discovered that the occupants were victims of the shooting.

A girl was struck at least once and died at the scene.

A woman was also struck at least once and was taken to a hospital where she was listed in good condition.

Another woman in the vehicle was not hit by the gunfire.

Sheriff’s homicide investigators say they do not know if the incident is gang-related.
