GASTONIA, N.C. — Three people have been arrested in connection the slaying of a man whose body was found on a rural North Carolina road.

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia said in a statement that deputies arrested 27-year-old Doris Maribel Alvarado-Peraza and 33-year-old Maynor Hernan Ortega on Jan. 5, acting on information from Gaston County police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

News outlets report Gaston County police arrested 31-year-old Elmer Alexander Lopez on Tuesday, with the help of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The three suspects were sought in the death of 28-year-old Miguel Angel Valle Romero, whose body was found Dec. 22.

The charges for each are yet unclear. It’s unclear if they have lawyers.

Alvarado-Peraza and Ortega refused to sign extradition papers on Monday, and another hearing has been set.
