Jack Dean Tunis

Jack Dean Tunis, 87, passed away on Sunday evening, January 7th, 2018 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Whiteland.

He was born on October 31st, 1930 in Indianapolis, the son of Paul and Dorothy Irene (Bolton) Tunis. Jack married Susan Talbott Skinner on March 9th, 1957. She preceded him in passing on June 5th, 2015. Jack is survived by children, Jack Dean (Janice) Tunis, II; Thomas Paul (Jayme) Tunis and Susie Rogers; son-in-law, Rick Gregory; grandchildren, David (Melissa) Tunis; J.T. (Melanie) Hull; Kimberly (Robert) Sherfeld; Michelle Tunis, Steve Jun; Cody Rogers; Taylor Tunis and Josie Tunis; great-grandchildren, Grace, Isiah, Addison and Bella; one sister, Patricia (Dale) Hawkins; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Vernie) Pa rton and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Susan; daughter, Jo Ellen Tunis Gregory; brother, Fred Tunis and twin sister, Joyce Belle Howell.

He was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis. Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.

He was employed by Performance Contracting, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service.

In earlier years, Jack enjoyed coaching his children in sports. He was a member of the Heat and Frost Insulation and Asbestos Worker Union, Local No. 18.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Friday, January 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Thursday, January 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
