SALT LAKE CITY — Two Utah police agencies are investigating the use of propane tanks to blow up ATMs.

One of the attempts on Sunday caused an explosion, while the other attempt was prevented by law enforcement.

Surveillance footage shows a West Jordan credit union’s ATM exploding while someone stood nearby.

After the blast, police say the person approached the ATM and then ran off.

Authorities in Salt Lake City responded to a similar credit union call later in the day. Officers found a propane tank sitting next to an ATM with a tube running from the tank into the ATM. No one appeared to be in the area and an officer at the scene turned off the propane before an explosion occurred.

The incidents remain under investigation.
