BURBANK, Calif. — Evacuations have been called for homes in a wealthy area of Burbank after a mudslide crushed cars and caused a gas leak.

Authorities Tuesday issued evacuation orders after waves of mud from hills swept down County Club Drive in the Los Angeles foothill suburb. A fire there last year has left the steep hills and canyons bare of brush that would help stabilize the soil.

Two cars were tossed and crushed and other vehicles overturned. Some residents also are without power.

No injuries are reported.
