Patricia Gillett

Patricia Ann (Miller) Gillett passed away on Friday morning, January 5th, 2018 at Compass Park at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.

She was born on February 26th, 1926 in Franklin, Indiana, to J Paul Miller and Margarette “Margie” (Vandivier) Miller. She married Wayne A. Gillett, Sr. on January 4th, 1948. He preceded her in passing on March 22, 2014. Patty is survived by a son, Wayne A. “Bud” (Gail) Gillett, Jr. of Cleburne, Texas; daughter, Melanie (Karl) Sublett of Louisville, Kentucky; and daughter, Paula (Barry) Springer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; grandchildren, Patrick Lee (Kim) Dennis, II; Sean Ryan (Sarah)Dennis; Margarette Mae Williams and Erin Elese(Josh) Williams Cornett; three great-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents and her sister, Phyllis Ray.

Patty was a 1944 graduate of Union High School. She received her Bachelor’ s from Butler University in 1960 and later received her Masters from Purdue in 1970.

She was employed as a school teacher with the Whiteland School Corporation for many years and later worked from 1964 to 1981 as a school teacher for the East Allen County School System.

She was a member of the Providence Christian Church. She was also a member of the Union Village Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and the Ninety-Nines Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots.

One of Patty’s proudest accomplishments besides her children was getting her private pilot’s license and participating in the Powder Puff Derby Air Races. Patty was active in many bridge groups and the Educator’s Association.

A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Christian Church, 4080 West 100 North, Bargersville, Indiana 46106.
