TAFT, Calif. — Authorities are searching for an inmate who walked away from a California prison.

KBAK/KBFX-TV reports Javier Torres was reported missing from his bunk Saturday at the Taft Correctional Institution following a morning head count.

The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service are looking for Torres, who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and has a scar on his right hand.

Jail records say Torres was serving time for the importation of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute.

He was set to be released in August of 2025.
