Boys basketball

Lancers prevail in OT

Justin Fosskuhl and Bryce Burton each scored 13 points to help lead Edinburgh to a 56-52 overtime win at West Washington on Saturday night.

Christian Cox added 10 points and Coltan Henderson had nine for the Lancers (8-4).

Cougars bomb Blue Devils

Kegan Owen scored 26 points and hit seven of Greenwood Christian’s 14 3-pointers in an 82-62 home win over Indianapolis Shortridge on Saturday.

Payton Modlin had 14 points and Cayden Bauschek added 11 for the Cougars (6-5), who hit nine first-half 3s to build a 45-30 lead going into the break.

DeHart, Braves rout Brown County

Jared DeHart scored a game-high 25 points to help Indian Creek cruise past Brown County, 58-33, on Saturday.

Zach Pugh added 10 points in the victory. The Braves (8-3) will play at Greenwood Christian Tuesday in the first round of the Johnson County tournament.

Girls basketball

Braves pull away from Eagles

Addie Rund scored 15 points, including eight free throws in the fourth quarter, as Indian Creek earned a 52-38 road win over Brown County on Saturday.

Celina McElroy and Katie Burkman added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Braves (11-8, 4-1 WIC), who outscored the Eagles 15-6 in the final period.

Slow start hampers Lancers

Edinburgh suffered a 67-49 loss at West Washington on Saturday, unable to recover after being outscored 18-4 in the first quarter.

Destiney Ramey had 11 points to lead the Lancers (8-8), while Trinity Tatlock added nine.

Swimming and diving

Trojans finish third at MIC meet

Center Grove’s boys and girls both placed third at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference meet on Saturday, finishing behind Carmel and North Central.

The Trojan boys had 368 points, just 17 back of second place, while the girls collected 322 points.

Wrestling

Trojans perfect in Evansville

Center Grove won all five of its dual matches at Evansville Memorial on Saturday, improving its overall record to 14-6.

Six Trojans posted perfect 5-0 marks on the day: Alex Petro at 113 and 120 pounds, Peyton Pruett (145), Gleason Mappes (160), Jonah Hays (170), Julius Byrd (182) and Shane Stits (195). Evan Shoemaker was 3-0 at 132 pounds.

Braves fare well at Brown County

Paced by four unbeaten wrestlers, Indian Creek won four of its five matches in a tournament at Brown County on Saturday.

The Braves defeated the host Eagles as well as Jasper, Northview and Indianapolis Manual, with their only defeat coming against Whiteland.

Owen Sego (132 pounds), Brad Trietsch (138), Gabe Pitzulo (145) and Bryce Woods (152) were all perfect on the day for Indian Creek.

Franklin College

Men’s basketball nearly pulls upset

Facing HCAC leader Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, Franklin College had several late looks at a game-winning basket but couldn’t get either to fall in a 56-55 road defeat.

Kale Morris hit a jumper to put the Grizzlies (3-10, 2-4) with 56 seconds left, but the Lions answered 19 seconds later and held off Franklin’s upset bid in the waning seconds.

Borden Kennedy scored 12 points in a losing effort.

Women’s basketball falls on road

Despite 17 points from Mallory Cast, Franklin College wound up on the losing end of a 58-51 score at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

The Grizzlies (3-9, 2-4 HCAC) got as close as two in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get over the hump.
