DETROIT — A father and his 21-year-old son face charges after the younger man was wounded as the two men fired shots at each other while driving separate vehicles along a Detroit freeway.

WXYZ-TV reports that the younger man drove himself to a hospital following the incident Friday morning on Interstate 96.

Police tell the television station that the men had been arguing via text messages before the shots were fired.

The father later drove to a police precinct and initially told officers that someone shot out his window while he was driving on the freeway. Police found at least one handgun in his vehicle.

Both men have been arrested.
