College update – January 6

Lipscomb point guard Lauren Rau is making the most of her sophomore season, leading her team in free-throw accuracy (.806) and ranking second in assists and steals.

The former Center Grove player fared well in her team’s 92-82 loss at Vanderbilt with 12 points and nine assists. She followed that up with eight points, four rebounds and three assists in a win against Alabama A&M.

CENTER GROVE

Regan Wentland scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds for Indiana State in a 77-63 women’s basketball loss to Missouri State. In the Sycamores’ loss to Southern Illinois, she scored eight points to go along with three boards.

DePauw’s 84-51 victory at Ohio Wesleyan in women’s basketball included four points and a rebound off the bench for Tiger freshman guard Emma LeMasters. Prior to that, LeMasters scored five points in a win against John Carroll.

Jessica Norris, a junior guard at Holy Cross College, had 16 points and four assists to help lead her squad to a 61-60 triumph against Indiana Wesleyan. She finished with three points, four boards and four assists in a loss at Concordia.

Freshman guard Allison Utterback scored three points to help Lewis down Saginaw Valley, 74-45.

Army senior linebacker Alex Aukerman finished his final college football game with two tackles, including one for loss, and his first interception in a 42-35 bowl win against San Diego State.

Stanford defensive tackle Jovan Swann had two tackles in the Cardinal’s 39-37 loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

INDIAN CREEK

Junior guard Dylan Phair produced six points, four rebounds and a steal as Indiana Tech downed Indiana Wesleyan, 88-84, in men’s basketball. He followed with five points in both a loss to Saginaw Valley State and a 71-61 win over Lawrence Tech (Michigan).

Cincinnati Christian freshman guard Tim Abel started his new year off right with seven points in a 92-82 win at Point Park (Pa.). He also ended 2017 strong by scoring 10 in an 86-79 loss to Northwestern Ohio.

GREENWOOD

Guard Jae Taft had five points for Olivet Nazarene women’s basketball in its loss to Dakota Wesleyan. The sophomore also was credited with two assists, a rebound and a steal. In a 113-108 loss to Arizona Christian, Taft supplied four points and a steal.

IUPUI sophomore point guard Holly Hoopingarner had 11 points, five assists and two steals in the Jaguars’ 82-46 victory at Illinois-Chicago.

WHITELAND

St. Francis women’s basketball defeated Madonna, 67-52, with Sidney Crowe scoring 14 points and corralling three rebounds. She finished with 10 points, three boards and an assist in a 60-55 victory against Grace College.

Indiana Tech’s Kate White came off the bench to play three minutes in her team’s 81-53 win against West Virginia Tech.
