CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two more women are suing the West Virginia Division of Corrections and a correctional officer who they say sexually abused them.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the two lawsuits filed Tuesday bring to five the number of lawsuits filed in recent weeks against the department, three correctional officers and their supervisors.
Both new lawsuits echo one filed in December that accused a correctional officer at the Huntington Work Release Center of abusing them while they were serving sentences. Two other suits filed in December name two officers at the Charleston Work Release Center and Western Regional Jail, respectively.
West Virginia State Sen. Mike Woelfel is representing all five plaintiffs.
Lawrence Messina, spokesman of the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, says officials can’t comment on pending litigation.
