NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Police say a teenage girl has been charged with fatally shooting a Tennessee man.

Nashville police say in a statement that the 16-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday night and charged with criminal homicide in the Nov. 9 shooting of 74-year-old Ruxin Wang.

Police say Wang had gone outside to retrieve a trash can when shots were fired. Witnesses told police they saw several young people run from the scene.

Investigators identified the teen as the shooter who killed Wang.

The girl refused to speak to detectives after her arrest. She is being held in juvenile detention. The Associated Press does not generally identify juveniles charged with crimes.

Police did not say if she has a lawyer.
