REDONDO BEACH, Calif. — The Latest on the shooting of a retired California deputy (all times local):
Authorities say a man in his 70s shot and wounded when he opened his front door is a retired Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy.
Investigators say the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the Southern California beach city of Redondo Beach.
Police say the suspect asked for someone by name and when the resident expressed confusion the man opened fire.
The victim was shot in the abdomen and wrist and was taken to a hospital for surgery. He was able to talk to police.
Officers searched the neighborhood for a suspect. Detectives have not named a possible motive.
The victim was not immediately identified. LA County sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says he retired from the department in 1978.
