BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — Authorities say a small airplane may have flown over a steam locomotive festival in northern Utah before it went missing.

Deseret News reports that authorities are asking for help in locating the plane that was due back to the Ogden airport Friday following a short sightseeing trip.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office says the pilot Denny Mansell and passenger Peter Ellis took off in a Cessna 172 and intended to fly to the Promontory Point area. They were expected to return about an hour later.

Sheriff Dale Ward says investigators believe the plane may have been spotted from the Winter Steam Festival at the Golden Spike National Historic Site late Friday afternoon.

The tail number of red and white aircraft is N4395R.
