WICHITA, Kan. — Sedgwick County officials say two people have died after being trapped in a grain elevator in south Wichita.

The county announced the bodies were recovered about 5 p.m. Tuesday at the grain bin at Gavilon Grain.

Fire Deputy Chief Larry Tangney says emergency crews responded to the site about 2:30 p.m. after reports two workers were trapped.

It was not clear how the two got into the bin and what caused them to become trapped under 20-25 feet of grain.

The two workers have not been identified.

The elevator, formerly known as DeBruce grain, was the scene of an explosion in June 1998 that killed seven people and injured 10 other workers.
