MAGNA, Utah — Police are investigating the deaths of a 41-year-old woman and her 9-year-old daughter whose bodies were found inside their home in Magna on New Year’s Eve.

United Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said in a statement Monday that investigators don’t know the cause of death for the woman and girl.

Lohrke says someone reported leaving a Christmas present on the home’s doorstep days earlier but noticed it hadn’t moved by Sunday and became alarmed.

Officers found the bodies inside the home Sunday night.

Police have not yet released the identities of the woman and girl.
