HARTFORD, Conn. — Police have released the name of the man killed in a car crash in Hartford early on New Year’s Day.

Police said Tuesday that 22-year-old Hector Rios-Acevedo, of Hartford, died at the hospital after the car crashed into a brick column at the entrance to Trinity College at about 3 a.m. Monday.

A 21-year-old woman and a 12-year-old child were also in the car and treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley says none of the victims has an affiliation with the college.

Foley says the preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor and police are looking into whether alcohol was involved.
