MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermonters are invited to start the new year on the right foot with a hike at a state park.

Free, guided, family-friendly hikes are happening at many state parks and forests Monday.

The hikes will be led by professional guides and outdoor educators.

Hikes are planned at state parks in Castleton, Ferrisburgh, Ludlow, Groton, Waterbury, Westmore, Hubbardton and Underhill. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and bring snowshoes as well as drinks and snacks.

Biking will also be an option on fat bikes at Seyon Lodge State Park in Groton. Bikers are asked to bring their fat bikes and helmets, though some demo bikes will be available.

A listing of the hikes is available on the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation’s website.
