NEW YORK — Authorities say two people in their 70s are dead following a fire in a Brooklyn apartment building.

The fire, at around 3:15 a.m. Friday, occurred just hours after a Bronx fire that claimed 12 lives on Thursday night.

The Daily News reports that firefighters found a 79-year-old woman dead on the second floor of the three-story brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

A 76-year-old man was rescued but died at a hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
