LANCASTER, S.C. — A horse has died after authorities say it ran across a highway in South Carolina and collided with a vehicle.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller tells The Herald of Rock Hill that the collision around 7 a.m. Tuesday shut down a road east of Lancaster.

Miller says the driver of a truck was heading east when the horse ran into the road and hit the vehicle. Miller says the driver, a 50-year-old Rock Hill man, was taken to a hospital as a “precautionary measure.”

The horse was killed, and Miller says no charges have been filed.
