WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Fire officials in New Jersey say a 68-year-old woman has died following a house fire.

WPVI-TV reports crews responded to the Washington Township home around 4 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say neighbors removed the woman from the home after seeing smoke.

Firefighters contained the blaze in about an hour.

Officials identified the victim as Carol Nicosia. She was taken to Cooper Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities say Nicosia was the only person in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the woman’s death is under investigation, pending an autopsy by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
