ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A Fairbanks felon found with guns has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison.
Federal prosecutors say 38-year-old J Cobb Whitmore faces 37 months in prison, three years of supervised release, 80 hours of community service and a requirement to pay his child support.
Whitmore in November 2015 was wanted on felony warrants for assault and escape.
He was arrested that month in Fairbanks and found with two guns, ammunition, a ballistic vest and a stolen flatbed truck.
He pleaded guilty Sept. 8 to being a felon in possession of guns.
Prosecutors say his criminal history spans 20 years with nearly all crimes committed in Nenana or Fairbanks.
Judge Ralph Beistline said Whitmore had victimized numerous interior Alaska residents with crimes that involved violence, guns, or both.
