TRENTON, N.J. — Gas prices in New Jersey have ticked down another notch but are still running higher than they were last year at this time.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $2.49, down a penny from last week. Motorists were paying $2.35 for gas in New Jersey at this time last year.
This marks the sixth straight week that gas prices have fallen in New Jersey.
The national average gas price Friday was $2.44, also down a cent from last week. The national average from a year ago was $2.27.
AAA expects 2.4 million New Jersey residents on the road this holiday travel period, an increase of 3.3 percent. Nationwide, a 3 percent increase to 97.4 million travelers is expected.
