SEWELL, N.J. — An 8-year-old New Jersey boy who was inspired by police officers is raising money for cancer research.
WPVI-TV reports Jaden Hummel starting collecting law enforcement patches from departments across the country after meeting a police officer at New York City’s 9/11 memorial. The Sewell boy decided to put his growing collection to good use by pledging a dollar donation to pediatric cancer research for each patch he received.
The 8-year-old’s GoFundMe page has received over $700 in donations. According to the charity page, the donations will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hummel has collected nearly 150 patches.
