FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Authorities say the lone male pilot of a small plane has died after his amateur-built aircraft hit some trees and crashed near a home south of Nashville.
Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Long says a nearby resident tried unsuccessfully to revive the pilot.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the amateur-built Zodiac 601XL struck some trees before crashing about 1 p.m. Thursday in a field in the small community of Thompson’s Station.
The FAA is investigating and says the National Transportation Safety Board will ultimately determine the probable cause of the accident.
Long says the plane was made from a kit and authorities are trying to determine where it was flying from.
The victim wasn’t immediately identified, and the FAA said it had no additional details yet.
