Two teens arrested in thefts from vehicles

Two teens were arrested after police said they were riding in a stolen vehicle and had rummaged through multiple cars in the Center Grove area.

Police arrested Sdoni D. Pettis, 18, and Robert E. Gimbel, 19, both of Indianapolis, on charges including unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and possession of paraphernalia.

Just after 12 a.m. Monday, Greenwood police were called to Library Park Apartments, near State Road 135 and Smith Valley Road, on a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Marion County and found Pettis, Gimbel and a juvenile walking through the area, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

The teens told officers multiple reasons why they were in the area but eventually told police they had been rummaging through vehicles to steal items, the report said.

Officers found the teens had a backpack, multiple cellphones and a watch they suspected had been taken from the vehicles parked in the nearby Hunting Creek neighborhood, the report said. Police also found a smoking pipe with methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Pettis, 2807 Indianapolis Ave., was arrested on two charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and a charge of possession of paraphernalia and criminal conversion.

Gimbel, 2318 La Salle St., was arrested on three charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and one charge of possession of paraphernalia.

The juvenile was released to his mother, and the prosecutor’s office will decide what, if any, charges to file.
