GREENWOOD
Joseph Smith Jr., born in Indianapolis, IN on June 23, 1933 passed away peacefully on December 20, 2017 with family at his side. Joe was one of twelve children born to Joseph and Ruth Smith.
Joe graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1952 to 1956. Joseph retired from Allison Transmission after 40+ years of dedicated service. In retirement, Joe worked for 13 years for Goldsberry Transmission. He is a member of the Whiteland VFW Post 6978. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva and daughter, Sheila. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Thompson (Terry), Pamela Wright (Donnie), Teresa McMahon; son, Mark (Barbra); sister, Judy Lowery of Florida and brother, John Smith of Wisconsin.
He is also survived by his best buddy, his dog Rudy. At the time of his death, Joe had 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was loved by all he knew and will be missed dearly by family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday December 22, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. A funeral service will be held on Saturday December 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., also in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
