Greenwood gives final approval to parking fine increase

Drivers who receive a ticket for parking illegally in Greenwood will see their fine more than double, but the increase won’t go into effect until February.

Earlier this week, the Greenwood City Council gave its final approval for raising the fine drivers pay for parking illegally from $15 to a graduated scale of $35, $50 and $75.

How much you actually will pay is dependent on how quickly you pay the ticket. The council voted 6-3 to approve the increase. Council members Brent Corey, David Hopper and Bruce Armstrong voted against the increase, saying that while they favored an increase in the fine amount, they preferred to have one set number.

The council also approved limiting parking to one side of the street in the Summerfield neighborhood at the request of residents who said their streets are too narrow to support drivers parked on both sides of the road.
